About RiffHunter
RiffHunter is a metal music discovery feed. It surfaces tracks you'll love — from popular bands you already know to underground ones you haven't found yet — and learns from your taste in real time.
What it does
- Vertical, TikTok-style scroll. One song per screen.
- Each card auto-plays around the heaviest moment of the track, so you skip most intros.
- Thumbs up / thumbs down per song. Your votes update per-artist and per-subgenre weights, which steer the feed in real time.
- A curated mix of popular, mid-tier, and underground artists across 20+ subgenres of metal.
- Tune your session: filter by subgenre, decade, heaviness, "Caveman ↔ Technical" complexity, vibe, and a Familiar ↔ Obscure discovery slider.
- Favorites: a gallery of your liked songs with filters for band, subgenre, album, and search.
- Save your favorite filter combos as one-tap presets ("Driving Music," "3am Black Metal," your own custom ones).
How it works
RiffHunter is a single-page web app. It uses Spotify's Web API and Web Playback SDK to play full tracks
from your own Spotify Premium account, directly in your browser. There is no backend service in between.
Your votes, preferences, liked songs, and saved presets are stored in your browser's localStorage —
they never leave your device.
Who built it
RiffHunter is a personal project by Asaf Bord, built together with his son Daniel Bord, who runs the invite list. Daniel is also the world's foremost authority on what counts as a "good riff" in this household.
